John Deere has lost its appeal for a new trial in a patent infringement case against AGCO Corp. and Precision Planting, LLC, as ruled by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on January 24, 2025.
Deere initially filed the lawsuit in 2018, claiming AGCO’s SpeedTube and vSet2 products infringed on patents related to its ExactEmerge planter. Deere argued that AGCO’s technology improperly replicated its method of capturing and planting seeds. However, AGCO successfully countered that its system accelerates and projects seeds, rather than capturing them, as supported by engineering testimony during the 2022 trial.
The appeals court upheld the jury’s original verdict, rejecting Deere’s claim that the decision was against the weight of evidence or influenced by district court errors.
