Cargill Inc. announced it will close a turkey processing plant in Springdale, Arkansas by August 2025, affecting about 1,100 employees and 100 farmers.
The company cited strategic business decisions as the reason for the closure, stating that production will shift to facilities in Missouri and Virginia. The plant, which has operated since 1965, processes Honey Suckle White brand turkey products.
Wholesale turkey prices dropped from $1.55 per pound in 2022 to $0.94 in 2024. Additionally, Cargill recently settled a $32.5 million lawsuit over alleged price fixing in turkey production.
