North Dakota House lawmakers approved exempting the state from Daylight Savings Time.

Legislators approved House Bill 1259 which would leave Standard Time unchanged year-round. There was testimony on both sides of the issue, with those in favor of the elimination pointing to adverse health effects of twice-a-year clock changes, and some of those opposed pointing to the negative impact it may have on farm and ag workers.

While the elimination of Daylight Savings Time is not a national hot-button topic, this isn’t the first time North Dakota lawmakers have considered the elimination. A similar bill was defeated in the House in 2021. This time, it passed with a vote of 55-37.

The measure now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
