Bi-partisan bills to protect contraception and fertility treatments in North Dakota were introduced in the North Dakota Legislature this week.
House Bill 1477 would make it against the law for any state or local government entity to deny access to fertility treatments like IVF. A different measure, House Bill 1478 would protect the right of citizens and medical providers to use contraception, but includes an exception for abortion medication.
There was no testimony in opposition to either bill, but Republican Representative Kathy Frelich of Devils Lake attempted to tie fertility treatments to transgender rights. No other lawmakers joined in her comments.
