State lawmakers voted 49-38 in favor of North Dakota House bill 1540 on Thursday. Lawmakers voted ‘yes’ to setting up an education savings account for parents.
The bill is asking for $40 million, which would set up accounts through the Bank of North Dakota. Parents could use this to pay for school-related costs like tuition, computers, books or transportation. The cost is about $4,400 once parents sign up for an account. The bill will now be discussed by the House Appropriations Committee.
The senate will vote on Bill 2303 tomorrow, a related action that is requesting more than $37 million to set up its own education and savings account for families.
