The No. 1 Wilton-Wing Miners will end the regular season with an unbeaten 19-0 record after a win over No. 8 New Rockford-Sheyenne on Saturday, 68-58.
“These kids have just played and grinded all year long and we’ve seen everybody’s best,” Wolff said. “I thought New Rockford played a heck of a game tonight.”
Wilton-Wing’s Teigen Earsley was a big problem for New Rockford-Sheyenne. The junior guard led the Miners with 26 points. The Rockets Bennett Meier was kept on the bench in the fourth quarter after fouling out, and finished with eight points. He entered Saturday leading the Rockets in points per game (17.1).
“That’s what he normally does. We get him into isolations,” Wolff said of Earsley’s performance. “We didn’t play our greatest but it was because of New Rockford’s defense.”
Both teams will participate in the Division B District tournaments coming up, which will run from Feb. 28 until March 4. New Rockford-Sheyenne (16-3) will battle for District 4 while Wilton-Wing (19-0) will try to win District 8.
