New Resolution, Could Impact New Farm Bill Passing

By Ryan King Feb 27, 2025 | 10:31 AM

The House of Representatives narrowly passed a budget resolution that leads the way for $4.5 trillion in tax cuts while imposing significant reductions in social programs, including Medicaid and the SNAP program.

The measure enables Republicans to move forward with a budget reconciliation bill without requiring a 60-vote threshold. Officials emphasized that this marks the first step in delivering the “America First agenda,” which includes extending tax cuts from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and implementing new reductions as well. The new reductions COULD include, no tax on tips, and overtime pay.

The resolution would also prevent U.S. farmers from facing an estimated $8 billion tax increase in 2026, however, steep cuts to social programs threaten support for the upcoming farm bill, which relies on funding for nutrition assistance programs like SNAP.
