Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced a $1 billion plan to combat highly pathogenic avian influenza and reduce domestic egg prices.
The USDA will allocate $500 million to help poultry producers implement top-tier biosecurity measures and another $400 million toward increasing indemnity payments to poultry farmers, while the department will work to streamline regulations.
Additionally, USDA plans to explore vaccine development while maintaining trade partnerships and temporarily increasing egg imports while decreasing exports to stabilize the market.
Rollins also addressed broader agricultural concerns, including the $30 billion in economic and disaster aid passed by Congress, with $10 billion in relief set to be distributed before the March 21 deadline.
