A gathering entitled “Protest for Justice” occurred Thursday at noon outside the Grand Forks County Courthouse in support of the Louthain family, whose six-year-old daughter Katarina was killed in a June crash along Highway 2 near the Grand Forks Airport. Around 40 supporters held signs and voiced their thoughts on the case. The demonstration comes as Travis Bell faces charges of criminal vehicular injury and criminal vehicular homicide in connection with the incident, which also seriously injured Katarina’s mother, Nicole. The grieving family hopes to spark change to prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedy. The courthouse protest aimed to draw attention to the case and show community solidarity with the family as they navigate the legal proceedings against the alleged drunk driver, whose breath test evidence was ruled unusable in court.
