
Police line Do not cross
More information is coming out about the officer-involved shooting in Watford City on Monday night.
The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Department says they responded to a domestic disturbance call when they found 65-year-old Walter Fitzwater and a woman engaged in a confrontation in the front yard.
Fitzwater then allegedly told police he had a gun and began walking towards them. Deputies say they told him to stop, but he refused. Deputies say they tried tazing him, but when he got back up and continued toward them they shot him.
Fitzwater was taken to a Watford City hospital where he died. The deputy who shot Fitzwater has not been identified publicly.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation continues to examine the events.
