Cleanup is underway after a Keystone pipeline rupture Tuesday morning near Fort Ransom, North Dakota spilled an estimated 147,000 gallons of crude oil before being shut down within minutes. South Bow has deployed vacuum trucks to recover oil from the affected agricultural field. The cause remains under investigation with the entire 2,700-mile system currently offline. Environmental groups note Keystone’s history of larger spills compared to other pipelines. Nearby farmer Myron Hammer reports smelling crude oil when the wind shifts. Energy experts disagree whether the shutdown will impact gas prices, with some expecting Midwest increases while others believe refineries have sufficient reserves to avoid immediate effects.
