A major fire engulfed the Sota Lake Properties building in downtown Perham early Friday morning, April 11. The blaze at 318 W. Main Street began around 4:30 a.m., requiring multiple fire departments to prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Otter Tail Power temporarily cut electricity to about 700 customers for safety reasons, restoring service to most by 7 a.m. By 9 a.m., the scene was largely cleared with authorities placing barricades around the building. Police report the renovated “business hub,” which reopened three and a half years ago and housed multiple businesses including Zerorez Carpet Cleaning and Elevate Landscaping, is likely a total loss with its roof collapsed. As of 11 a.m., the fire’s cause remained unknown.
