The Goodrich Rural Fire Department announced the Sheridan Fire was fully contained at 3:15 p.m. Saturday after burning an estimated 4,000-23,000 acres. The fire, which started from a controlled burn on Davis WPA land, spread at approximately six inches per second. Two firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, with one life-flighted to Minneapolis. Firefighters used up to 60,000 gallons of water, and one Wildland Rescue truck was destroyed. A separate fire in Emmons County was also contained. That fire burned about two miles wide, damaged 13 haybales, but caused no injuries. Multiple fire departments responded to both incidents, with the National Guard deploying a Blackhawk helicopter to assist in Emmons County. Highway 1804 south of Bismarck was temporarily closed due to heavy smoke reducing visibility in the area.
