Polls are now closed in all parts of North Dakota, with those in Mountain Time hitting the 7:00 hour.
Voter turnout is expected to be strong this year. More than 182,000 ballots had been cast in North Dakota’s election as of 3:00 p.m. on Monday, according to the Secretary of State’s election results portal. More than 96,000 people voted early in person and nearly 86,000 voted mail-in and absentee ballots before Election Day.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, over 273,00 North Dakotans voted through the mail or in person ahead of Election Day. This was an increase from 2016 when 135,000 residents cast their ballots before Election Day.
According to Michael Howe of the Secretary of State, the North Dakota voter participation record is 69%, set during the 1984 presidential election. North Dakota has an estimated 594,140 eligible voters for today’s election.
So far, no significant measures or decisions have been called in the state. North Dakota will carry three electoral votes in the presidential election. A candidate must win 270 of the 538 total electoral votes to win the 2024 presidential election.
