Agricultural Groups Preparing Outlines For New Presidential Administration

By Ryan King Nov 8, 2024 | 8:01 AM

Agricultural groups have outlined their priorities to the incoming Trump-Vance administration, emphasizing key issues like the passage of a new farm bill, disaster assistance for producers, and tax reforms to prevent tax hikes in 2025.

A significant concern is labor shortages, with many groups urging modernization of the H-2A migrant worker program to ensure a stable agricultural workforce. Additionally, a rollback of Biden-era regulations such as livestock competition rules and the EPA’s Power Plant Rule, which they believe hinder rural power production.

Several groups, including the National Corn Growers Association and the International Fresh Produce Association, are particularly focused on policies that support biofuels, especially ethanol, and seek permanent solutions for E15 availability. There is also a push for reforms to improve the accessibility and reliability of the H-2A program, which many growers depend on for labor. While agricultural leaders acknowledged the challenges posed by high input costs and inflation under the Biden administration, they expressed optimism about working with the new leadership to reverse some of these policies and strengthen U.S. agriculture and rural economies.
