Hawaii recently had a detection from state and federal tests that confirmed the virus in ducks and geese that died on a backyard farm.
This was the first for the state of Hawaii, and may be due to some birds passing through migrating south, the Hawaii state department of health warned residents about the potential exposure to pets including the birds from the infected flock.
Hawaii is now the 49th state to report an outbreak since the first reports turned up in early 2022.
