A crash on I-94 Wednesday evening killed one person near Casselton.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says that two people in their 70s were driving an SUV westbound 12 miles west of Casselton around 6:40 p.m. A semi truck travelling eastbound had lost control of the vehicle and jackknifed into the westbound lanes. The SUV collided with the trailer that was blocking both lanes, and got wedged underneath.
A 75-year-old man died, and a 72-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Fargo hospital. The 37-year-old driver of the semi truck was not hurt.
The NDHP says reduced visibility along with ice and snow on the road all contributed to the incident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
