PAYTON GALL, KSJB LOCAL NEWS –
The mother of a Fargo shooting victim spoke out on Wednesday about the videos of an August shooting released by prosecutors.
Austin Strom, 25, was shot and killed outside of the Prairie Heights Church in West Fargo on August 17th. The shooter, 53-year-old Don Barron Jr., was not charged in the case. Barron attempted to intervene a dispute between Strom and church member Kent Hodges. At that point in time, he and the church member were no longer in a physical dispute. 911 was not called to help deescalate, and Barron eventually drew his loaded weapon, shooting and killing Strom. Strom’s mother, Robin, saw the videos of the incident that prosecutors used in the case, released earlier in November, and she believes that other options were available for the shooter, and she finds it hard to accept the not guilty verdict.
Prosecutors state that Austin Strom was having a mental health crisis, and his mother says he was not a violent person.
