Vikings Cut Backup Tight End on His Birthday

Some Birthdays aren’t so happy.

The Minnesota Vikings announced a roster move after their Week 12 victory over the Chicago Bears where they went to overtime and improved to 9-2,  good enough for second in the NFC North. The move included cutting 4th string tight end Nick Muse, who was apart of the team on the practice squad and would be used in an emergency backup role, as well as being used during special teams situations.

We see moves like this all the time during the NFL season, teams make these moves in order to replace someone who was injured, or to make room for an incoming free agent signing, but even on your birthday, business is business.

Muse was cut on his Birthday, which has happened many times throughout the history of the league, but Muse, and his brother Tanner might be the first siblings in NFL history to have the same thing happen to them. Both Nick, and his brother Tanner were cut on their birthdays, Nick being cut from the Vikings, and Tanner being cut from the Raiders.

Nick commented on the move saying,  “Look at that. You know what they call that, they call that NFL history. How many times has two brothers both get cut on their birthdays that’s pretty sick to me, I mean it’s the wrong side of NFL history, but hey, you win some you lose some. Preciate the happy birthday messages and, we vibe.”

Muse will more than likely be re-signed to the Vikings’ practice squad once he clears waivers later on Tuesday afternoon. Muse played in last weeks game against Chicago, with tight end Josh Oliver missing the game with an ankle injury, the Vikings like to use two to three tight ends in their offensive sets so if another injury were to occur to any of the Vikings tight ends, we may see Muse called up again.
