The North Dakota Geological Survey announced a site in northwestern North Dakota that likely has mammoth bones is worthy of excavation.
Bones were first discovered on the private property in 1988. It took over 30 years, but survey teams once again returned to the site in September and confirmed their belief that many more bones lay beneath the garage, where previous the previous find happened.
The North Dakota State Legislature now needs to approve funding to dig and compensate the property owners for the need to relocate the garage. The mammoth that was previously found is likely to be over 13,000 years old and of an adolescent.
