The Jamestown Police Department says 27-year-old Devin Quinn Fontenot was the suspect killed early Tuesday morning.
Fontenot, a resident of the city, allegedly had an altercation at the downtown Fred’s Den bar before being kicked out. Fontenot is then accused of firing multiple shots at the bar before a JPD sergeant arrived. Police say multiple rounds fired by Fontenot shattered a window and went into Fred’s Den and others hit the surrounding buildings.
According to police, the sergeant who arrived alone ordered Fontenot to put his weapon down but he refused. The sergeant then allegedly shot Fontenot, who died after being transported to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
There are no other reports of injuries during active-shooter situation.
JPD Chief Scott Edinger said it was the quick actions by the sergeant that, “saved lives.” The sergeant and other officers involved in the incident have been placed on standard administrative leave.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is continuing the investigation.
