The Valley City High-Liners used the interior game in the first half, and a barrage of threes in the second half, to cruise past the Northern Cass Jaguars and claim the Barnes County Girls Basketball Tournament Championship.
The High-Liners, playing in their home city at Valley City State University, were dominant inside with sophomore forward Katie Burchill scoring 16 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, and freshman Skye Nielson adding 9 points and 8 rebounds. The outside shooting of Madison Anderson electrified the home crowd in the second half, with the junior forward making 8 three-pointers while scoring a game-high 28 points.
Northern Cass (3-1) struggled from long range, missing all eight three-point attempts in the first half and going 2/16 for the game. Senior forward Haidyn Crockett led the Jaguars with 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Northern Cass placed second at the tournament.
Valley City (3-0) plays next at Oak Grove on December 17. Northern Cass is at Lisbon on December 16.
