Fargo’s Police Chief is raising the alarm on overcapacity at the Cass County Jail.
Chief Dave Zibolski spoke at a Police Advisory Meeting this past week and commented that his department has began to count the number of people they couldn’t arrest due to overcrowding issues. Zibolski said that number is now at 300 this year, and said these potential arrests included of people with felony charges. He called the potential results “catastrophic.”
The Department of Corrections has released prioritization plans to house higher level offenders, but there is no clear plan at this point to either reduce inmate population, or to expand the jails.
Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner confirmed in comments that overcrowding is an issue they are looking to address.
