According to the North Dakota Highway patrol, a semi-truck was traveling north on Highway 22 toward New Town when the 41-year-old driver tried to stop at the intersection of Highway 12. The stop caused a slide, and the truck jack-knifed.
An Express Van with 11 people and a GMC Yukon with four people were both traveling east on Highway 12 and the drivers were unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the semi-trailer. The Yukon rear-ended the trailer on the back of the Express van after the van hit the trailer at a right angle.
Passengers in the Yukon and van were taken to West River Health Services, Southwest Healthcare Services, and Rapid City Monument Hospital. The driver of the semi was not injured, but the van and Yukon had several passengers that had minor injuries.
