Since a law criminalizing gender affirming care like hormone therapy and puberty blockers for minors was enacted in 2023, Dr. Luis Casas, a pediatric endocrinologist has been challenging the law via lawsuit. He believes it to be an unconstitutional violation of personal autonomy, which James Cantor, a Toronto psychologist and sexologist, disagrees with, according to his witness testimony on Monday. He does not have expertise diagnosing or treating minors with gender dysphoria, but based his testimony on his own review of published research. He describes gender dysphoria as a “socialization problem,” that stems from other conditions like ADHD or autism, and that gender-affirming care for minors is scientifically nonsense, despite at least a dozen American medical associations that have stated their support of the treatments. The trial is expected to end this week.
