Ray Holmberg’s change of plea hearing has been scheduled. Holmberg, a former North Dakota state senator, announced in June he will plead guilty to charges of traveling abroad to sexually abuse a child. That was a change from his initial not-guilty plea last October. The charges stem from his travels to the Czech Republic in 2011 where he is accused of sexual contact with a minor. A change-of-plea hearing will be held on August 8. Holmberg faces a maximum sentence of 30 years and a $250,000 fine. He was North Dakota’s longest serving state legislator, and tied for longest serving state senator in the country, upon his retirement in 2022.
