A NEW Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Champion was crowned yesterday during the 108th annual competition held at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City.

The contest this year was missing a certain star of the competition winner of 16 of the last 17 competitions, Joey Chestnut who was banned this year due to his new partnership with a plant based hot dog company, Impossible Foods.

With competitors knowing that the title would be up for grabs with the legend in competitive eating missing, the eating would begin and a new champ would be awaiting.

Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago was crowned the new winner of the ‘Mustard Belt” after taking down 58 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Geoffrey Esper of the US would finish second in the race with 53, and Australian James Webb finishing 3rd with 52.

Bertoletti said Chestnut missing was a big factor in his motivation for the competition this year saying, “With Joey not here, I knew I had a shot,” he said. “I was able to unlock something that I don’t know where it came from. But I’m not complaining.”

In the women’s competition a well known competitor took home another title, Miki Sudo who would eat 51 hot dogs in 10 minutes, bringing home her 10th title in the storied competition.
