Team USA Men’s basketball opened up their run for Olympic Gold on Sunday Morning defeating Serbia 110-84.
Team USA would get to a slow start in the beginning minutes of the first quarter… then Kevin Durant checked in and it was all USA from there.
Durant put the team on his back leading the team in scoring with 23 points, going 8-9 from the field, including 5-5 from the 3-point line all while coming off the bench. Durant missed the whole exhibition series of games with a calf injury he dealt with since Team USA begun practicing for the Olympics.
Lebron James would also be a key contributor in the win with 21 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds. And 4 of 5 starters would go double digits in the game including Steph Curry with 11, Devon Booker with 12, and Jrue Holiday with 15.
One note from the game, Boston Superstar Jason Tatum who’s fresh off an NBA Finals win, and Indiana’s rising star Tyrese Haliburton did not play any minutes in the win for Team USA. Head Coach Steve Kerr commented on the decision saying that, it was part of the plan, and Tatum and Haliburton will get more minutes as the team matches up with the various styles of teams in the Olympics.
Team USA will play again on Wednesday when they will a play a team that gave them fits in the exhibition round South Sudan as they continue group play from the Paris Olympics.
