Thanks to Senator John Hoeven, the University of North Dakota in part with its Energy and Environmental Research Center will receive a 5 million dollar grant from the Us Department of Energy to assist in funding for carbon dioxide storage facilities located in the Williston Basin which will strengthen North Dakotas current standing as a pioneer in carbon capture utilization and storage technology.

Hoeven played a pivotal role in increasing the funding and ensuring that North Dakota would remain at the top of the carbon capturing industry.

Hoeven commented on the grant and future for the industry saying, “Whether in support of our coal-fired power plants, facilities like the Great Plains Synfuels Plant, or our vast oil and gas industry, EERC and North Dakota are leading the way in developing CCUS technologies. This $5 million award provides continued support for the partnerships we’ve built to advance these efforts.”
