After an impressive start to his Preseason in Week 1 against the Raiders. The feeling and momentum coming from both the Vikings locker room and fans has come crashing to a screeching halt.

After McCarthy was reported to have missed practice on Monday night due to soreness in his right knee, the team would evaluate and determine if McCarthy would make the trip to Cleveland for the teams second preseason game.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday morning MRI’s confirmed that McCarthy tore his meniscus, and will need surgery to repair it, limiting, or possibly ending his rookie season before it could even begin.

For the time being, veteran Sam Darnold will take the reigns as the Vikings starting quarterback, and will be backed by fellow veteran Nick Mullens, and 2nd year quarterback Jarren Hall.

In McCarthy’s now limited time, he was productive, throwing for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
