Tens of thousands of acres have burned, and several buildings have been destroyed after wildfires burned in Western North Dakota this weekend. One firefighter described the blaze as “Armageddon.”
The crews of firefighters, farmers, ranchers and others battled 40 fires that began late Friday and early Saturday. 26-year-old Johannes Nicolaas Van Eeden of South Africa was killed in the fires, the Williams County Sheriff’s Office reported on Sunday.
The strong winds and dry conditions are blamed for starting the fires.
