The Minnesota Vikings ended their road trip across the pond with a win last week against the New York Jets, but the starting offense hit a bump with an injury to one of its main contributors.

Aaron Jones left the game early against New York with a hip injury and never returned leaving his status for the upcoming weeks in question.

Head Coach Kevin O’Connell was asked during a recent interview about the status of Jones entering their bye week and if the 8th year veteran will be available in two weeks when the Vikings have a big showdown with division rival and current second place team in the NFC North, Detroit.

O’Connell said, “Aaron Jones continues to be evaluated, but all the early information that we’ve got so far looks like we’ve avoided a long term injury, but I would classify as him as week to week he will get treatment throughout this week and I will give you guys an update where he’s at next week as we kinda hopefully work him back into a, getting involved in practice and leading into whether we’ll have him vs the Lions.”

Through the first 5 games of the Vikings 5-0 undefeated season Jones has been the slasher of yards similar to his time in Green Bay, carrying the ball 71 times for 350 yards, and 1 touchdown. Jones has also been a receiving threat catching the ball, catching the ball 17 times for 167 yards and 1 touchdown, that mark making him the second leading wide receiver on the Vikings team behind Justin Jefferson.

Jones will have time to rest up with the bye week this week, but his status will remain in the air for 2 weeks against Detroit, if not available or limited the Vikings will look to their other running backs Ty Chandler, Myles Gaskin, and full back CJ Ham to take some off some of the pressure of the passing game.
