The Williams County Commission has declared a disaster emergency after confirmation that two people have been killed by the Ray-Tioga Fire that has burned nearly 90,000 acres. 47-year-old Edgar Coppersmith and 26-year-old Nicolaas Van Eden died after injuries sustained earlier this week. That fire is reportedly 99% contained.
Elsewhere, the Bear Den Fire in Mandaree is 30% contained, and has burned over 12,000 acres. The Elkhorn Fire also continues to rage, with crews reporting 50% containment and nearly 30,000 acres burned.
There are at least 40 total wildfires reported burning in North Dakota.
