North Dakota’s abortion ban will remain on hold while the state appeals a judge’s ruling that struck down the law. Judge Bruce Romanick declined to stay his ruling from September that struck down North Dakota’s near-total ban on abortion. Attorneys for the state failed to convince Judge Romanick to modify his ruling in arguments in District Court on Thursday. The appeal will now head to the state Supreme Court, but a date for arguments is yet to be set. Melissa Rutman, an attorney for the plaintiffs seeking to overturn the ban, said she agreed with Judge Romanick’s ruling that the state hadn’t met the requirements to re-instate the ban while the appeal process plays out.
