With the uncertainty of Aaron Jones’ availability before the Minnesota Vikings showdown with the Detroit Lions this coming Sunday, the Vikings have jumped into the trade pool to bring back a player familiar with the Vikings and their offense.

The Vikings completed a trade with the Houston Texans to bring back former Viking Cam Akers who was with the Vikings before training camp. The Vikings sent a conditional 2026 6th round draft pick and in return the Texans sent Akers, and conditional 2026 7th round pick.

Akers rejoins current Vikings Ty Chandler, and Myles Gaskin on the roster. Akers showed signs of being a productive back last year but his season was cut short due to an Achilles injury.

Aaron Jones’ hip will be a topic of discussion for Vikings fans for the coming weeks. Jones was a key piece of the Vikings offense in both the running and passing game, being it’s leading rusher and second leading receiver. The Vikings will hope to fill the void with Chandler, Gaskin, and Akers until Jones is ready to return.
