Controversy at Theodore Roosevelt National Park After Young Horse is Euthanized Following Roundup

By Patrick McColl Oct 22, 2024 | 1:45 PM

Officials at Theodore Roosevelt National Park said they received a report that a 1-year-old filly that was captured during the roundup was injured. The park announced on Facebook that a veterinarian examined the animal and that the must humane course of action was to euthanize.

Chris Kman of Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates said she received a call from a follower that her horse was down. Kman said she raced to the park and that Filly’s death is “100% on the park.” Kman believes Filly’s death occurred because of the park’s roundup.

Since the event, Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates has collected almost 2,000 petition signatures asking that the tracking collars placed on some of the horses be removed, as the collars are uncomfortable and emit a humming sound that bothers the horses, Kman said.
