Farmers Using Different Methods of Storage

By Ryan King Oct 23, 2024 | 10:12 AM

Farmers are increasingly turning to alternative grain storage methods, particularly grain bagging, due to a bumper crop this season, according to Ryan Gentle, the agronomy manager for Wyffels Hybrids in Illinois.

He notes that while this shift presents storage challenges, it is generally a positive sign of a successful harvest. As more farmers fill grain bags in their fields, Gentle emphasizes the importance of ensuring the quality of the grain being stored.

To achieve optimal results, Gentle advises farmers to only bag dry corn, as moisture levels above 18 or 19% can lead to quality issues.

He highlights that grain bagging has become a popular and cost-effective solution for farmers looking to expand their temporary storage capacity, especially during times of high yield.
